Program history

Founded in 1971, the Graduate Program in Medicine (Internal Medicine), as first named, had the 1000^th completed degree in 2015. There are approximately 60 mentors and more than 200 students.

Every year, around 50 students get their degrees (master or PhD). The number of published articles is 200 to 300 per year, most of these papers have graduate students as authors or coauthors. Recently, the post-doctoral enrollment have increased due to national policies and funding support with 20 researchers included in our laboratory activities every year.

The post-doctoral positions are linked to the mentor and to the Department of Medicine (Medical School). This program manages funding support from CAPES (Federal Department for Education) for the national post-doctoral program (PNPD).
