The Support Center for Foreign Professors and Students - CAPEE has the proposal to guide and assist foreigners with academic bonds to the Ribeirão Preto Campus in the necessary steps to establish in Brazil, in addition to promoting cultural integration between foreigners and Brazilians.

CAPEE provides support to Teaching Units regarding documents and procedures for the arrival and stay of foreigners in Brazil, support for foreign visitors on bureaucratic visa issues, registration with the Federal Police, obtaining a CPF, searching for housing, providing services within the city, in addition to advising on the routine of the Campus, such as library services, restaurants, banks, post offices, transport, etc.

USEFUL INFORMATION:

Before travelling:

Visa
Foreigners wishing to study or carry out scientific research in Brazil must obtain a student or researcher visa from the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate in their country. The documents and procedures may vary for each case, however, most of the times, among the documents requested, are:

• Form completed on the website www.scedv.serpro.gov.br, printed and duly signed;
• Passport with an expiration date equal to or greater than 6 (six) months;

 If there are no filiation (parents’ names) in the passport, the interested party must present an additional document that proves the filiation.

• A 3x4 photograph, less than six months old, in front, white background;
• Original invitation letter, confirming the acceptance of the student / researcher or reservation of vacancy, issued by a Brazilian educational institution or original proof that he is already enrolled in an educational establishment (with mandatory recognition by the Ministry of Education-MEC) and in which the duration of the course is also mentioned;
• Proof of means of subsistence: For scholarship holders, a scholarship certificate stating the amount to be received monthly and the duration of the scholarship; for non-scholarship holders, proof of their own financial capacity or term of responsibility of another person with a notarized signature to cover the expenses of the foreigner during their entire stay in Brazil;
• Health insurance valid throughout the Brazilian territory that offers coverage, including, for treatment and hospitalization; or Social Security PB4;
• Negative certificate of criminal record (criminal record);
• Parental travel authorization in the case of a minor, as well as indication of the responsible person in Brazil, with signature notarized.

For more details and guidance, the foreigner should contact the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate closest to his residence. It is also important to find out about the requirement for vaccines.

National Registry of Foreigners - RNE (REGISTRO NACIONAL DE ESTRANGEIRO)
The foreigner admitted to Brazil is required to register with the Federal Police station closest to his residence, within 30 (thirty) days from his arrival, to obtain the RNE - Registro Nacional de Estrangeiro, which is a identity document for foreigners in Brazil.

The following documents will be requested for the issuance of RNE:

• Valid original passport (travel document);
• Original visa application and certified copy;
• 2 recent 3x4 photos, colored, with white background;
• Authenticated copies of the used pages of the Passport;
• Proof of payment of R $ 106.45, referring to the registration fee for foreigners (people from Portuguese-speaking countries are exempt from this fee);
• Proof of payment of R $ 204.77, referring to the issuance fee of the Alien's Identity Card.

The foreigner will receive a registration protocol from the Federal Police that must be kept with the passport until the RNE's wallet is ready, which takes, on average, 90 days.

We remind you that CAPEE offers assistance to foreigners in all procedures with the Federal Police. If the foreigner is in need, we can assist you in obtaining the requested documents and also take you to the Federal Police to regularize your situation in the country.

CPF - Individual Taxpayer Registration (CPF-Cadastro de Pessoa Física)
 

The CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registry) is a type of social number required in Brazil in several situations, such as opening a bank account, acquiring, and leasing assets, among others.

To make the CPF, the foreigner must go to any branch of Banco do Brasil, Caixa Econômica Federal or post office, answer a form, pay a fee of R $ 5.70, and present the following documents:

Passport;

Proof of residence, which can be a telephone bill, electricity, etc., issued less than 90 days ago or a statement from the person responsible for the residence, certifying that the foreigner resides at the address indicated in the proof.

Federal Police Protocol (document provided to the Federal Police after the procedure for obtaining the RNE) or Visa Application Form.

On the Ribeirão Preto Campus, there is a Banco do Brasil agency, located next to the Central Restaurant (Bandejão), and a Post Office branch, located next to the Physical Education, Sports and Recreation Center (CEFER).

To withdraw the CPF number, the foreigner must go to the Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal), located in Ribeirão Preto at Av. Dr. Francisco Junqueira, 2625. Phone: 16-2111 5900), 24 hours after the request with the same documents previously presented, more proof of CPF application.

Other informations:

Academic year: In Brazil, the academic year starts in February or March and ends in December. The first semester of the academic year comprises the period between February and July and the second semester comprises the period between August and December.

Vacations: School recess periods (vacations) in Brazil occur in two seasons: in the month of July and in the period from December to February. The precise semester start and end dates are published each year in the academic calendar.
